Sunday, October 22 wasn’t just another sunset at Jordan Lake, North Carolina. The fading light, reflecting upon the calm waters, was about to witness a heartfelt twist in Trevor and Rachel’s love story. Trevor came to me two weeks before and told me exactly the plan, and that he wanted me to be the photographer. Having done many surprise proposals in the past—I was more than happy to oblige.
More than Just a Lakeside Memory
There’s a certain nostalgia tied to this spot for our couple. It’s not just about the tranquil waves or the rustling leaves; it’s where Trevor and Rachel set the cornerstone of their love journey. 6 years ago, they had their first ever date at this exact spot. So, what better stage for the next big leap?
A Ring & a Plan
When Trevor shared his plan with me, I could feel his anticipation and excitement. And of course, I was excited too! The setup? Rachel believed she was strolling in for a casual shoot with another photographer friend of hers. Instead, she was walking into a life-changing surprise.
I had many thorough conversations with Trevor prior about the exact plan, placement, and angles. I had scouted the location days before to plan out the perfect spot. Now prepped with a prior recce of Jordan Lake, I met Trevor at the exact spot briefly before the big moment. Trevor, decked in out a perfectly cut navy suit with ring in hand, was ready and more confident than ever. He knew exactly where to stand.
The Tale Unfolds (And Me. Hiding in the Bushes.)
As Trevor waited beachside for Rachel to arrive with her friend, I was crouched nearby, hiding in the bushes. As Rachel arrived, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be an ordinary evening. Trevor walked her down the beach, merely yards away from where I was hiding. Time stood still as he got down on one knee, and that moment was captured forever. And of course, Rachel said yes!
Following the tearful “yes,” we seized the golden hour, capturing their joy in a spontaneous mini-session.
